SDSS-IV MaNGA: enhanced star formation in galactic-scale outflows

چکیده

ABSTRACT Using the integral field unit (IFU) data from Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey, we collect a sample of 36 star-forming galaxies that host galactic-scale outflows in ionized gas phase. The control is matched three-dimensional parameter space stellar mass, star formation rate, and inclination angle. Concerning global properties, tend to have smaller size, more asymmetric disc, active centre, older population than galaxies. Comparing properties along axes, conclude can be divided into two branches. One branch evolves following inside-out scenario. other located galactic centre triggered by accretion or galaxy interaction, further drives outflows. Besides, enhanced metallicity minor axis uncover positive feedback metal entrainment Observational different phases with higher spatial resolution are needed reveal influence on progress detail.

The New Frontier: Galactic–Scale Star Formation

The arena of investigation of star formation and its scaling laws is slowly, but consistently, shifting from the realm of luminous galaxies to that of faint ones and to sub–galactic regions, as existing and new facilities enable investigators to probe regions of the combined parameter space of surface brightness, wavelength, and angular resolution that were inaccessible until a few years ago. W...

Quasar Feedback and Galactic - scale Outflows

One of the most fascinating astronomical discoveries of the last several decades was the gradual realization that almost every massive galaxy, including our own Milky Way, contains a supermassive black hole in its center. Several lines of evidence suggest a fundamental connection between the black holes residing in galaxy centers and the formation and evolution of their host galaxies. One such ...

Outflows in Regions of Star Formation

The high spatial and spectral resolution offered by the new generation of infrared spectrometers at ESO is optimally suited for the observational study of outflows from young stellar objects. Models of interstellar shock waves would benefit from observations of spectrally resolved line profiles. This applies also to attempts of measuring the rotation rates of jets very close to their driving so...

Star formation in Perseus III . Outflows

Context. We present a search for outflows towards 51 submillimetre cores in the Perseus molecular cloud. Aims. Our first objective is to identify the protostellar population through the detection of molecular outflows. Our second aim is to consistently derive outflow properties from a large homogeneous dataset within one molecular cloud in order to investigate further the mass dependence and ti...

Properties of Galactic Outflows: Measurements of the Feedback from Star Formation

Properties of starburst-driven outflows in dwarf galaxies are compared to those in more massive galaxies. Over a factor of ∼ 10 in galactic rotation speed, supershells are shown to lift warm ionized gas out of the disk at rates up to several times the star formation rate. The amount of mass escaping the galactic potential, in contrast to the disk, does depend on the galactic mass. The temperatu...
